Does the treatment hurt?

The energy from the laser heats the ink very quickly, but we apply an anesthetic cream beforehand to minimize your discomfort.  There is slightly more discomfort than the actual tattoo process but as mentioned we apply an anesthetic cream beforehand to reduce tenderness.  Some patients prefer treatment without the cream, but this is an individual choice we leave up to you.

 

How Many Treatement Sessions?

Most tattoos take 4-6 treatments for dramatic improvement, however each tattoo responds uniquely.  There are many types of ink, some are organic, some contain inorganic material like metals.  Placement of the ink also affects treatment speed and sucess in that deeper placement of ink can be more challenging while superficial ink placement can be easier in some cases.  Some colours are more resistant to the laser treatment but all will respond to the laser light energy.  The best colours for removal are black, red, blue, and green.  Other colours will respond nicely to the laser energy as well, although they will require more treatments.

 

How much does it cost?

The cost to you depends on the size of the tattoo and how many treatments are needed for your satisfaction.  We charge a cost based on the size and complexity of the tattoo per session.  We cannot give a price until Dr. Crippen sees the tattoo in person.

 

 

Are there any side-effects to worry about?

Laser removal of tattoos is very safe and effective.  The tattoo after treatment will look scabby and like a healing wound for approximately one week.  After this time, the skin will be smooth and re-healed.  The tattoo will continue to fade after the treatment until the next session in 6 weeks.  Avoid direct sun exposure during the first week of healing.

 

What other conditions can this laser treat?

The Q-Switched Medlite laser is quite versatile.  We can treat many different lesions including moles, birthmarks, freckles,  and sun damage.  It is an exceptionally safe laser with little to no chance of scarring.
